The Town of Vail is inviting feedback from users of our municipal website to help shape future improvements. A short, 10-question survey has been posted here with opportunities to comment on user-friendliness, ease of navigation and improvement ideas. The survey is live through Monday, Aug. 10, and the more responses received, the better the end result will be.

Vail Announces Operational Adjustments to Comply with Public Health Order

The Town of Vail has taken immediate measures to implement the Standing Public Health Order Related to Events, Bars and Restaurants issued by Eagle County Department of Health & Environment and recommendations from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus in our community. We have adjusted our protocols to emphasize social distancing practices in our day-to-day municipal operations and have canceled public gatherings according to the standing order. We ask that you conduct business with the Town of Vail via phone and/or online services. Look for Vail Transit to return operations Monday, May 5. This information will be updated as new announcements are made.

Take Part in Vail’s Community Survey and Share Ideas on COVID-19 Response

There’s still time to take part in the Town of Vail community survey which will help the town gather critical information in its response to the COVID-19 virus, among other topics. New questions have been added to learn what the town can do to support the community during the COVID-19 public health crisis. The survey also includes questions used to evaluate municipal service levels and to identify community priorities. Residents, property owners, business owners, employees and others impacted by the town are encouraged to participate. The survey is available in two formats: online at www.vailcommunitysurvey.org/open or in a paper format that can be mailed upon request by calling 970-479-2115 or emailing info@vailgov.com. However, if you received a postcard invitation to take part, please use the login address and passcode on the card to help ensure the survey is statistically valid.

Online COVID-19 Resource Directory Assists with Community Questions and Announcements

The Town of Vail has added an online COVID-19 resource directory to its vailgov.com website to assist with community questions on Public Health Orders, local resources and other information. With the health, safety and well-being of the community the number-one priority of the town, information provided on www.vailgov.com/COVID-19 is intended to be a clearinghouse of resources to help community members access the latest information available. To access official updates from Eagle County Public Health & Environment, please continue to use www.ECEmergency.org. In addition, follow One Valley Voice on Facebook for timely, bilingual updates from Eagle County.

UPDATE: Mayor Chapin is almost fully recovered and would like to thank everyone for reaching out to him with your heartfelt words of encouragement and support. Area Hiking Info Made Easy with Launch of HikeVail.net in Collaboration with U.S. Forest Service and Town of Vail
A new hiking website has been launched in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the Town of Vail to make it easy to access information about area trails, including tips on how to enjoy the most popular trails as well as alternative hikes to avoid crowding. Creation of HikeVail.net is one of several actions resulting from an ongoing study between the town, White River National Forest and community representatives to address overcrowding issues at the trailheads in East Vail that lead directly into the Eagles Nest Wilderness.

Vail Town Manager Greg Clifton has announced the hiring of Thomas ‘TJ’ Johnson as director of Information Technology. Johnson has 20 years of IT experience and has most recently served as senior IT manager for Vail Resorts, leading a team of 12 professionals.

The Town of Vail is introducing the first stages of a master planning process that will rely heavily on community engagement to determine how best to incorporate community needs and goals in preparing for future improvements to town-owned properties in the heart of Vail. To learn more about the Civic Area Master Plan process, the town is hosting a community open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11 in the Grand View on the third level of the Lionshead Welcome Center.

Vail to Host Public Presentation on Autonomous Vehicles, other Emerging Technologies by Noted Author and Futurist Rutt Bridges on Aug. 7
The Town of Vail has arranged for noted author and futurist Rutt Bridges to lead a presentation and discussion on autonomous vehicles and other emerging technologies during the Tuesday, Aug. 7 Vail Town Council meeting. Members of the community as well as representatives from agencies and organizations from throughout the region are welcome to attend. The presentation is listed as agenda item 5.1 and will take place from approximately 6:15 until 7:15 p.m. in the Vail Town Council Chambers, 75 S. Frontage Road. The session will include opportunities for questions and comments from the public.

Cellular Service Disruptions Anticipated during Upgrade Project

Disruptions in local cellular service for customers of AT&T and Verizon could be experienced between April 30 and May 18 as technicians work to install new equipment within Vail on behalf of Crown Castle, which owns and operates the town’s cellular system.

Public comment opportunities will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 17 as the Vail Town Council considers final adoption of the 2018 municipal budget. The $78.9 million expenditure plan is available on the town’s website. Second reading of the budget ordinance is listed as public hearing item 6.1 on Tuesday’s meeting agenda which begins at 6 p.m. in the Vail Town Council Chambers.

The Town of Vail is adding to its existing Facebook presence with introduction of a new main page as an additional way to interact with community members and to share announcements on town-sponsored community events, town-funded special events, environmental activities, neighborhood services and more. The town’s Police, Fire and Library pages will continue to thrive with accounts established previously – each with their distinctive, loyal fans.
