Benefits Overview

Full-Time Regular Employees enjoy the following benefits from the Town of Vail.

Benefits are subject to eligibility requirements and are subject to change. All benefits are outlined in detail in the HR Manual or Summary Plan Descriptions.

VACATION & HOLIDAY PAY

 

Vacation & Holiday Pay

Employees are eligible for six paid holidays and three weeks vacation during the first year (based on a 40 hour workweek.) We have combined the vacation and holiday hours into one account since many employees must work holidays.

0-3 years of service 6.46 hours/pay period 4.2 weeks/year
3-6 years of service 8.00 hours/pay period 5.2 weeks/year
6 + years of service 9.54 hours/pay period 6.2 weeks/year

In addition, non-exempt employees are paid double time for all hours worked on Town of Vail designated holidays.

 

Town of Vail offices are closed on the following six designated holidays:

• New Year’s Day (January 1)
• Memorial Day (last Monday in May)
• Independence Day (July 4)
• Labor Day (first Monday in September)
• Thanksgiving (fourth Thursday in November)
• Christmas (December 25)

 

Employees whose offices are closed will observe these days utilizing accrued vacation/holiday time. Non-exempt employees required to work on these days will be paid holiday pay of two times the base hourly rate.


SICK LEAVE

 

Sick Leave

Employees working 40 hours per week earn eight (8) hours sick leave per month.

 

PENSION PLAN

 

Pension Plan

The Town of Vail pays all contributions to this retirement pension beginning the first day of employment. Employee vesting in this plan is 20% per year (5 years for 100% vesting). Town of Vail contributions as follows:

First year of service 11.15% of base salary
After completing 1 year of service 16.15% of base salary

Note: The Town of Vail and its employees do not make retirement contributions to the Federal Social Security System.

457 DEFERRED COMPENSATION

 

457 Deferred Compensation

The 457 Deferred Compensation plan is a voluntary contribution made by the employee. There is no penalty associated with distributions from a 457 provided you are no longer working for the Town.

 

HEALTH INSURANCE

 

Health Insurance

The Town of Vail has an excellent health insurance plan for full-time employees and eligible dependents including medical and dental coverage.  

Health Insurance plans are offered the first of the month following a 30 day waiting period.

Employee Only $60.00 / per period
Employee + Child(ren) $150.00 / per period
Employee + Spouse $180.00 / per period
Family $250.00 / per period

MEDICAL

 

Medical

The Town of Vail has an excellent health insurance plan for FT employees and eligible dependents. The Town offers a PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) plan with 100% wellness coverage.

 

DENTAL

 

Dental

The Town offers a comprehensive dental insurance without doctor network restrictions. This dental coverage has NO deductibles.

 

FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNT

 

Flexible Spending Account

Allows employees to pay for eligible expenses with pre-tax dollars. There are four areas where this plan might benefit you:

  • Dependent Care Expenses
  • Out of pocket medical, dental, and vision expenses.

WELLNESS BENEFITS

 

Wellness Benefit

In an effort to help employees shape a better lifestyle, the Town of Vail now offers a Lifestyle Spending Account (LSA) through Discovery Benefits. An LSA helps employees with expenses related to well-being and more. The Town will provide all benefit eligible employees with $800 for the 2020 plan year.** Simply make an eligible purchase and submit your receipts for reimbursement! 

The Town of Vail takes an all-inclusive approach to wellness. The LSA will cover expenses related to: Fitness membership fees and dues, lessons, classes, clinics, equipment rental and purchase, athletic clothing and gear, ski passes to any mountain, fitness and nutrition counseling and weight loss programs, activity trackers, race and competition entry fees, hunting and fishing licenses, national and state park entry passes, camping fees and equipment and more! 

The Town of Vail will NOT cover expenses such as: Travel, mileage, weapons, FSA eligible items.

All reimbursements received are subject to taxation.

EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

 

Local Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

The town of Vail offers an employee assistance program to all employees and their families.  Each employee and his/her family members are entitled to six (6) free visits to Mind Springs Heath Counseling Center each year.  All visits are totally confidential.  

Counseling is available for drug or alcohol problems, family problems, work-related problems, etc.

Services are also offered with the Life Assistance Program through Cigna Health at 1-800-538-3543. 

TUITION REIMBURSEMENT

 

Tuition Reimbusement

The town of Vail encourages employees to continue their learning and take advantage of educational courses offered at accredited colleges, universities and trade schools.  In support of this philosophy the town offers a tuition reimbursement program for its employees.
