Diseased Spruce Tree Coming Down in Vail Village

A large spruce tree on the Covered Bridge Pocket Park site has been found to be rotten inside and needs to be removed for public safety. This tree is roughly 90 feet tall and 30 inches in diameter at the base. It is located very close to the Covered Bridge Building and will require a crane on Bridge Street and closure of the Covered Bridge and lower Bridge Street for part of one day. The removal will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9. A crane will be positioned at the south end of the Covered Bridge with a truck and chipper behind it. Pedestrians will be detoured to the International Bridge during the closure.

Ceres Land Care will be doing the removal as a contractor for the Town of Vail. Contact Todd Oppenheimer at toppenheimer@vailgov.com or 970-390-4678 if there are any questions.
