A recommendation to install lighted pedestrian crossing devices along Vail’s frontage roads will be the topic of a public input session during the Vail Town Council’s regular meeting on Tuesday, July 5. The devices are being recommended to improve safety at the intersections. The public input item is listed as 3.1 on the meeting agenda which begins at 6 p.m. in the Vail Town Council Chambers.
Vail America Days™ will return to Vail Village and Lionshead Village on July 4. Vail’s event-filled Fourth of July celebration continues to be a top destination for those looking to celebrate the summer holiday in a fun and safe mountain environment. For 2016, the celebration will include spectacular fireworks, a classic town parade, music and more.
The Town of Vail is hosting a public follow-up meeting from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 29 to provide an overview on themes and ideas to be included in an update to the town’s Housing Strategic Plan. The gathering will be held in the Vail Town Council Chambers at the Vail Municipal Building, 75 S. Frontage Road. Light refreshments will be provided.
The Town of Vail will sponsor the second in a series of lunch and learn symposiums on Wednesday, June 29 at noon at the Lionshead Welcome Center. Attendees will enjoy a free lunch while listening to Nicola Ripley, executive director of Betty Ford Alpine Gardens, give a presentation on landscaping with native plants and the importance of a riparian buffer.
Vail America Days™ organizers are ready to welcome guests and area residents for the extended Fourth of July holiday which includes Vail’s popular parade and fireworks display on Monday, plus a full weekend of activities. Those who gather in Vail and throughout the county are being asked to be mindful that fire restrictions could be enacted at any time for Vail, Eagle County and other surrounding public lands.
Most Town of Vail municipal offices will be closed Monday, July 4 in observance of the Independence Day holiday. However, the Police Records Office in the Municipal Building will remain open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The office is available for front counter service and is open Monday through Saturday each week; closed Sundays.

This week, Interstate 70 traffic will return to its normal alignment in both directions between the Vail Town Center and West Vail interchanges, signifying an on-time completion of the underpass bridges and the start of major Frontage Road construction. Beginning Tuesday, July 5, Vail Transit routes servicing West Vail will be modified this summer and fall to accommodate phase-two construction of the I-70 Vail underpass project where the major work will shift to the north and south frontage roads. This work will create one-way traffic through the project site. The route for pedestrians and bicyclists will also be impacted.
Night work on Monday, June 27 will require the closure of the South Frontage Road at approximately MP 178 in the Town of Vail. Project impacts will occur on the frontage road between Exit 180 and Exit 176 of EB I-70 between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
