Construction Bids Sought

The Town of Vail is seeking bids for construction of the first phase of the Lionshead Transit Center. The project includes a pull-off on the South Frontage Road for ECO regional buses, along with construction of a 1,200 sq. ft. building containing restrooms and waiting area, and a new short term skier drop-off. Construction is scheduled to begin in August pending approvals and financial authorization by the Town Council. When completed in December the improvements will accommodate current and future transit needs and provide for convenient skier drop-off in Lionshead.

A mandatory pre-bid meeting will be held at 1 p.m. July 7 in the town’s Public Works Administration Building, 1309 Elkhorn Drive, for interested contractors. Sealed bids will be opened at 2 p.m. July 21. A copy of the town’s request for bids is available in the public notices section.

Phase-two of the transit center project will include a demo/rebuild of the Lionshead auxiliary building providing for existing uses, improved vertical circulation, new guest services and amenities.  The schedule for phase-two includes construction beginning in April 2011 with completion in November 2011.

The Lionshead Transit Center project is being funded, in part, by a $5 million federal transportation grant as well as from incremental property tax revenue, or Tax Increment Financing (TIF), resulting from the LionsHead redevelopment.
