2011 Budget Process Underway

The Town of Vail’s budget process is underway for 2011 with ample opportunities for public input prior to adoption in November. During an overview on June 15, the Vail Town Council provided direction on an overall budget philosophy as follows:
• Maintain premier resort experience for guests and citizens.
• Focus on the council’s top priorities – budget and capital management; parking and transportation; economic development; housing; and environmental stewardship.
• Develop a sustainable budget that operates within annual revenues by reducing operating costs and identifying appropriate staffing levels.
The Town Council will be reviewing various components of the budget at the following regularly-scheduled meetings:
July
July 22 work session, discussion of major revenue items.
August
August 17 work session, discussion of 5-year capital plan.
September
Sept. 21 work session, review of Vail Local Marketing District operating plan.
Sept 21 evening meeting, review first draft of town manager’s recommended budget.
November
Nov. 2 evening meeting, first reading of 2011 Budget Ordinance.
Nov. 2 evening meeting, Vail Local Marketing District Budget Resolution.
Nov. 16 evening meeting, second reading of 2011 Budget Ordinance.
Nov. 16 evening meeting, Vail Reinvestment Authority Budget Resolution.
Please note these dates are subject to change. Work sessions begin around noon or later, and the evening sessions begin at 6 p.m. Public comment opportunities are provided during the evening meetings with limited opportunities for public comment during the work sessions. Council meeting agendas are available the Friday prior to the scheduled meeting and are posted on line at vailgov.com. The 2010 budget totals $60.7 million, with the majority of spending within the General Fund, $29.2 million; the Capital Projects Fund, $21.4 million; and the Real Estate Transfer Tax Fund, $7.1 million.
